Peony Pecher
Peony Pecher is a bit of a mystery to me. We have grown it at Vermont Flower Farm for perhaps 20 years but when we go to the authority that we follow, the Americal Peony Society Registry, we don’t find it. The picture here is one taken at our farm from peonies that were always the same. When we do a web search, however, we fnd a registration named Noemie (or “y”, not “ie”) Demay as an alternative name although many sources suggest Calot 1876 as the hybridizer with an alternative name Fleur de Pecher. Regardless of the confusion, this Pecher is a peachy pastel double (peach being that difficult, confusing color close to pink) with wide guard petals that are a shade close to white that’s sort of a cross between lilac and lavender–that pale. You notice these colors as the blooms fade. The blooms come on strong, 32″ stems with medium-sized flowers. The fragrance is sweet and has a medium scent/intensity. So about the mystery? If you can help solve it, please help. In the meantime, this one is still beautiful and certainly Vermont hardy…and in demand. It will be available at the farm in 12 quart pots in July 2023.
