Hosta Lakeside Banana Bay

Mary Chastain registered Lakeside Banana Bay in 2005, as a sport of Lakeside Meter Maid. This smaller hosta reaches 10″-12″ tall and forms clumps to 26″ wide in time. Scapes are about 15″ tall and offer lavender, tubular blooms. The 5″ tall and wide leaves are yellow inside with some olive streaks leading to the apple-green edges. It produces much better color if it’s planted away from bright sunshine in soil that will retain moisture and prevent bleaching of the center yellow.  Bright sun could turn the yellow white, dehydrate the leaves and cause holes to tear. Credit of the image is given to our supplier, Growing Colors/Carden World, Cottage Grove, Minnesota. We should have our own images for display during late summer 2023.
