Hosta Terms of Endearment
Terms of Endearment is a 2020 registration by Hans Hansen/Walters Gardens. It’s a cross between a streaked Elegans and Empress Wu so it has extra-large character in all respects. The blue green leaves have a yellow-green edge. Remember that Elegans holds its scapes closer to the leaves but Terms of Endearment with taller scapes gets the blooms above the top of the leaves a bit more. When I first saw it, I thought of Frances Williams, one my first hostas back in the late 80s when I just started growing hostas. I gave up selling Frances Williams because the edges scorch and detract from the beauty of that plant although I have read that it’s more genetic than environmental. I grow a Frances Williams sport named Samurai just so visitors can see what it does over the summer after looking so nice in the springtime. Much less burn with this hybrid. The picture of Terms of Endearment I am using here is from Walters Gardens and is used to display this fine new plant that carries a registration they share with Hans Hansen.
