Florence Shaw/Paul Aden 1980. Unknown origin. One of the larger hostas on the market now. Chartreuse to glossy-gold leaves exceeding 20″ X 15″. More gold in more sunshine. Very heavy substance, good slug and insect pest resistance. Pale lavender flowers on  38″ scapes beginning mid to late July here. There have been many reports of specimens exceeding 7′-8′ in width and we have no doubt that’s true. We have seen some. That means it has to be located where there is plenty of room for growth. I distinctly remember a customer buying one and when I described the space needs he said he thought it would look great by his back door. I disagreed and actually asked that he remember our conversation. Four years later he returned asking what to do as the door wouldn’t open easily anymore. “Got friends?” Digging any large hosta takes some energy but digging an aged, extra-large hosta can benefit from friends helping. There’s never time to do it right but there’s always time to do it over??….???
