Hosta Nigrescens

Fumio Maekawa 1937/AHS 1993. Large, thick, cupped, corrugated 12″ X 9″ (leaf length to width) leaves. Ash grey colored over dark blue-green above, and glaucous underneath. Upright, vase shaped habit. Scapes 5-7 feet tall with pale lavender flowers. Scape height is obvious in its progeny seedling, Krossa Regal. One of its seedlings is Garnet Prince which we grow and sell.  (GP is a vigorous grower!) Nigrescens grows best in shade. In our display garden, you’ll find it mid-garden by a box elder tree near the top-to-bottom connector path.
