Osaka University/Gus Krossa/Alex Summers/Alma Krossa 1980. A nigrescens seeding. Tall, vase-shaped hosta, blue-grey, frosted foliage, 36″ to 42″ tall, leathery texture. Some say “majestic, stately”.  Imported from Japan in the 1950s. Flower scapes to 7 feet tall with orchid flowers. Award winner: American Hosta Society Eunice Fisher Award, Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Award 2001. Architecturally useful along walkways or roadways, middle to back of gardens to draw attention and increase the perceived size of the garden, or to line wide walkways leading to old homes, mansions, restaurants, bed and breakfasts. The most noteworthy example in Vermont is at an inn in Norwich, Vermont where giant clumps line a wide walkway to the front port.
