Hosta Blue Umbrellas
Florence Shaw 1978. Tokudama’ x sieboldiana ‘Elegans’. Extra large….some say “huge”—satin blue fading to blue-green with more sun and summer heat. Nicely textured, heavily ribbed, leaf edges curve down. The tiers of leaves give the umbrella appearance /source of the name. In this part of New England, we have to say “slow growth rate.” Slugs and snails are not interested in it. Photo by the Originator, Florence Shaw as it appears on Hostalibrary.org. Some share the registration credit with Paul Aden but both Shaw and Aden have passed on so credit is a guess.
