Hosta Big John

Owens ’86. Huge, dark green, heart-shaped, wavy leaves, 18″ X 15″ and downward turning. Flowers are white and fertile. The flowers appear close to the top of the leaves, a trait probably from their sieboldiana heritage. Mature size of 4-5 feet wide. A Eunice Fisher Award winner. A parent of the now world-famous Empress Wu, one of the largest of all current hostas.  Because of that genetic relationship to Empress Wu and now the EW sport, Wu-La-La,  George speculates that Big John itself has become more popular. Withdrawn from sale for 2024 due to the loss of some mature plants during the 2023 floods. We’ll get it back into production during Spring 2024.
