Hosta Barbara Ann
Hosta Barbara Ann is a sieboldiana ‘Elegans’ sport that originated in the United Kingdom at a company named Munton’s Microplants of Stowmarket, Suffolk. I credit this information from Hugo Phillips 2005-2021, copyrighted website named MyHostas as it appears on the very popular US site, hostalibrary.org. As the story goes, two technicians named Barbara and Ann found the sport while checking a batch of ‘Elegans” tissue culture. It grows to be a large hosta with corrugated blue-grey leaves with a white edge. Scapes are 26″ tall with white flowers. I do not recall where I purchased these plants from but suspect it was a grower in Central Vermont during my initial days of collecting hostas that caught my eye. During the years of our current display garden only two ladies ever recognized it by name and asked for it a couple-three years in a row. It has not been the fastest growing hosta for me and as such it’s on my “relocation” list for spring 2024. I intend to move it where there is more sunlight and more moisture. It is not for sale at this point. This is my picture of three plants from their earlier years.
