Griesbach-Klehm 1970. This is one of the series of  +15 daylilies named after birds that these two hybridizers produced in the 70s. This one is named after the male hummingbird that arrives  every May 5-6-7 here in Marshfield. The males establish their territory and then when the females arrive they pick one and begin working on a nest. As for the daylily, it produces 34″-36″ tall, thick scapes. The 5″ clear, deep red blooms have a yellow throat. Dormant. Tetraploid. Blooms the end of Mid-Season into Late Season with an exceptional bud count. There’s a very nice grouping of 12-15 clumps planted in the daylily display garden just inside on the right after entering the garden. There’s also a short row in the lower propagation field on the Marshfield village side. When these are in bloom you will see why they are so popular.
