Daylily Round Midnight

Mercer ’92 . 32″-36″ tall, thick scapes.  6″ dark purple self with yellow-green throat. Evergreen. Tetraploid. Is a rebloomer that begins the first part of mid-season here and continues on. When we first bought this daylily we wondered how it would perform being an Evergreen in a cold climate with winter thaws and early season temperature drops. It surprised us and grew to be taller and bigger than first advertised. George always looks at a plant’s heritage and this one included Strutter’s Ball and Houdini genes suggesting where Round Midnight’s strength came from. By the time this vigorous grower reaches 3 feet, the scapes begin to grow outward from the base of the plant like a person opening their arms and welcoming a friend. (Early Snow does this too) Consider the mature size when planting. Goes well with your late bloomers and shows off well if planted with other daylilies on a bank to eliminate mowing and add color and attention.
