Daylily Mallard

Griesbach-Klehm 1979. 28″-32″ tall scapes. 6″ bloom, red self, small green-yellow throat. Dormant. Tetraploid. Another of the daylilies these two hybridizers named from their 1970s era collection. Here in Vermont, we see flocks of mallards that often stay year-round now but none have red. Maybe the hybridizers were thinking about male Mandarin ducks which have red on their heads.  ????
