Daylily Chicago Fire

Marsh 1973. 34″ tall scapes. 6″ deep rusty red bloom with yellow-green throat and very obvious pale cream ribs on the outer petals. Semi-Evergreen. Tetraploid. Mid Season bloomer. Every year, almost without fail, someone will stop at the flower farm and ask for Chicago Fire. Up until recent years, they would typically explain that they had a firefighter in the family who liked daylilies and they wanted it for a gift. In the past few years, people have mentioned the same rational but because of the series by the same name. The resulting problem is that propagation doesn’t always keep up with the unknown number of visitors but it’s nice to make any firefighter happy as it’s a very, very difficult job.
