Daylily Boothbay Harbor Gold
Celler, 1998. 26″ tall, 4.5″ bloom, 32 buds, 4 branches, gold self (seedling X Kwan Yin). Very early bloomer here in Marshfield, dormant, diploid, fragrant. One time, gardening friend Carl Harmon visited and we were talking about very early daylilies which I was looking for as customers often wanted good color as soon as possible after the snow melted. Carl owns Harmon Hill Farm in Hudson NH where thousands of daylilies grow. He’s a very knowledgeable grower and he and his wife Marlene operate a wonderful place to visit. When he got home, he sent me Boothbay Harbor Gold and also Sagemore Bob Pelletier, both of which fit the bill for blooming early and often. Interplant these two with Stella d’Oro and Stella Supreme and you’ll have a mass of early color that will continue for some time.
