Daylily Ben Kirk
Barth 1985. 36″ tall scapes, 6″ blooms. Dormant. Tetraploid. Orange with large mahogany eye zone. The summer of 2021, was difficult in many respects but we had the opportunity to meet a number of great people. A lady from Maine stopped by. She was in town for a wedding. She had run a nursery until recently and being that she appeared my age of 73 at the time, I asked if she’d like to ride around in the Ranger and see the place. At one stop along the lower daylily field, she asked about a daylily. “Ben Kirk”, I said. She replied “I know Ben Kirk.” to which I asked, “You mean the flower?” “No, the man.” The Barths named many daylilies after people and places in the immediate area of Alna, Maine and I guess Ben was one of those she knew. Small world. Availability limited to 3 pots left for 2024 as we propagate some more. When they are gone, nothng left until 2025. Sorry. That happens! No mail order on this one. $24
