Daylily Blue Blood

Barth, 1974. A mid-season bloomer, dormant foliage habit, a tetraploid. The 7″ diameter bloom is described as blue-red with a small green throat all carried on a 30″ scape. George had an appointment at the Barth farm in Alna, Maine on fateful Tuesday, September 11, 2001, not knowing after traveling since 3 AM what had happened to the world. When he arrived at the tiny town of Alna, he thought he had directions but the road he thought he should take was narrow and looked more like it deserved a herd of cows than a truck from Vermont. After a couple trips around the street, he stopped next to a very old couple out for a walk. As George rolled down the window the man asked, “Lookin’ for that daylily place ain’t you?” “How’d you know?” asked George. “Well, we may be old, but we ain’t stupid. Your truck says Vermont Flower Farm on the back.” End of the story but the start of a growing love for a New England hybridized and produced series of hardy daylilies. Try some! I purchased some stock of Blue Blood three years ago so supplies are limited at the farm. Call ahead if you are coming just out of interest in acquiring this daylily. $24.
