Eric Smith 1961/BHHS 1988. When Halcyon was released to market it was immediately admired and known as the best blue medium hosta on the market. It has a neat appearance and a horizontal habit. Leaves are flat, have heavy substance, and prominent veins. 18″ tall scapes with pale lavender flowers. Winner of  the Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Hosta Award 1987, and the July 1991 Midwest Blue Award.  Halcyon sports that we grow include Blue Ivory, First Frost, June, Katherine Lewis. Progeny that we grow include Carolina Blue, Dress Blues, El Nino, Lacy Belle, Torchlight. We have sold out some years perhaps because of this hosta’s fine reputation and how often it is written up in gardening magazines and blogs.
