Daylily Challenger
Stout 1949. George collects tall plants including daylilies and Challenger fits the bill at 5-7 feet tall. The blooms are medium to dusky brick red with a yellow throat. Although the scapes are thin, they are strong enough to handle high winds. This daylily is one of our few Evergreens. It’s Diploid and is a rebloomer. It won an Honorable Mention in 1953 from the American Hemerocallis Society. Works well along the middle to back of gardens or mixed in with other tall plants.
