Daylily Catherine Neal
Carpenter 1981. Dormant. 36″ tall, 6″ velvety, deep purple bloom with a green throat. Alex picked this out for us in 2003 when he started a collection and it’s been with us ever since. Mid-season to late season bloomer. None potted for 2024 but there is a row in the last block, end of first row entering the large daylily field off the parking lot. Take a look. From my experience this daylily needs about three years in this region to look really good. When I first bought it, I noticed that it was listed as a Semi Evergreen and I felt this might be the reason it took longer to develop. I could never find the actual heritage. Now it’s listed as Dormant so I guess I was off on my thinking. People often ask me where the name came from, especially when we are talking about Barth daylilies. Here’s a link that will answer the question about the Catherine Neal name. Region 6 People – Catherine Neal (ahsregion6.com).
