LILY BULBS
|
Note: Mail order is available for all plants on this site except lilium. Lilies from bulbs are available as potted plants for pick up in Marshfield. Read on for explanation. |
We've been growing and selling lilies since 1984 but so far we haven't geared up to do mail order bulb sales. Part of the difficulty lies in Vermont's climate. The growing season is quite short and although it is well adapted to growing most lilies, quality production and accompanying harvest and storage are a problem. These are things buyers often overlook when they open a fancy catalog from one of the big producers. There really is a lot involved.
Bulbs are harvested when they are finished growing. Makes sense, correct? Of course it does. Except here, the end of the growing season is late September which barely preceeds the first snows in October. Harvesting, cleaning and packaging just aren't compatible with shipping under the pressures of Mother Nature. That's not to say we won't figure this out in the near future, but for now, you'll have to bear with our schedule. All lilies are available for purchase here in Marshfield. If you have your own idea and want to give George your pitch on handling your "special" purchase differently, he guarantees he'll listen to you, but there is no guarantee beyond that. He acknowledges he has shipped a few bulbs but at this point he'd rather not. He's a good gardener you know, and he cares about his customers.
Lily varieties vary from year to year. As with all stock, if you are traveling a distance to see or purchase something special, call, write or e-mail first so as not to be unhappy. Priced from $5.50 to $25.00.
