HOSTA COLLECTIONS

Sometimes gardeners ask us to put together complementing groupings for them. Since color is one of those "eye of the beholder" things, it's often a little more difficult than it might seem. But along comes Gail, a very creative and experienced florist and gardener. She's put together some combinations which work well together and save you a couple dollars too. These are available "as priced" and as listed so no substitutions. We want to keep it all simple for everyone.

THE COLONIAL COLLECTION

Our son Alex loves history so we thought those of you who are history buffs or enjoy a patriotic theme would enjoy such a collection. This one includes one plant each of Minuteman, Patriot, Pilgrim, Salute and Revolution. This is a $71 value for $64. $64.00

LIMES & BLUES COLLECTION

Sometimes colors work well together and we don't even think about their possibility. The lime and blue colors enhance each other. The late spring chartreuse color of August Moon matures to yellow gold leaves and near white flowers. It combines so well with Tokudama Flavocircinalis, with it's distinctly textured leaves with irregular blue edges and dark chartreuse centers. Try two Tokudama and three August Moon. A $56.50 value for $50. $50.00

OLDIES BUT GOODIES

This is a great collection for the beginning hosta enthusiast. These are tried and true varieties which offer some very nice qualities, colors and fragrance. Includes one of each, August Moon, Abiqua Moonbeam, Albopicta, Francee, Gold Standard, Royal Standard, So Sweet and Wide Brim. This is an $83.50 value for $75.00. $75.00

We have started with Halcyon. Where else? This is one of the best medium sized blue hostas ever available. It's thick scapes with clusters of near white to pale lavender flowers make it a strong accent by itself. We've combined it with Lacy Belle which has Halcyon in its heritage. It's a good grower which makes a nice clump in short order. This is a medium sized hosta too, with its attractive medium blue green leaves and creamy white margins. The leaves have a slight twist. Medium lavender flowers arrive mid season. Two choices available on this one.

Your gardening friends may want to know how you did it but good soil, water and good plant genes are the answer. You will still be proud!

Here at Vermont Flower Farm we are very proud of our hosta gardens and our growing hosta collection. It's a small collection compared to many but our plants are healthy, individually labeled and quite well displayed. Each year we add to our collection and as those plants mature, our saleable offerings increase. Here is a partial list of other hostas we are producing for future sales. Ask about availablity. Stop by for a visit!
